If no device sees the network, the router or access point has stopped broadcasting — restart it. If only one device can't see it, check that its WiFi adapter is on and supports the band the network uses, or whether the network is hidden.
Common causes
Router or access point is off or frozen
A power outage, tripped power strip, or crashed access point stops the network from broadcasting.
Network is hidden
Some networks don't broadcast their name and must be added manually.
Device doesn't support the band
Older devices can't see 5 GHz or 6 GHz networks at all.
WiFi adapter disabled or in airplane mode
The adapter may be turned off, disabled in Device Manager, or blocked by airplane mode.
Out of range
From a distant room the network may be too weak to appear in the list.
How to fix it, step by step
- 1
Check other devices
If no one sees the network, restart the router or access point and check its power and lights.
- 2
Turn the WiFi adapter off and on
Toggle airplane mode and WiFi, and check that the adapter is enabled in Network Connections.
- 3
Connect to a hidden network manually
Use "Add a network" or "Hidden network" and enter the exact network name and password.
- 4
Check the band
If an older device can't see the network, make sure the router also broadcasts on 2.4 GHz.
- 5
Update or reinstall the WiFi driver
A faulty driver can stop a laptop from scanning for networks correctly.
When to call a technician
If the network disappears regularly, an access point may be failing or overheating. We check the equipment, logs, and power, and replace what's unreliable.

Frequently asked questions
Does hiding the WiFi network make it more secure?
Not really. Hidden networks can still be found easily. A strong password and WPA2 or WPA3 security matter much more.
Why can my phone see the WiFi but my laptop can't?
The laptop's adapter may be off, have a driver problem, or not support the band the network uses.
Why did the WiFi disappear after a power outage?
Equipment may not have restarted properly, or a power strip or PoE switch powering the access point is off.
